The bed that once belonged to a woman in her 30s is now in the possession of a man in his 50s, after he decided to sell it to an auction house in China.
The man, who was reportedly inspired by the bed’s unique design, sold it to a Chinese auction house for a whopping $3.5 million.
“I bought it at the auction house and I was so happy when I found out that it was so much beautiful that I couldn’t wait to put it in the room,” the man told the Hindustan Times.
The bed was one of the few items left by a woman who was forced to leave her home after she was married off to a wealthy Chinese man.
She was only able to reclaim her home because the man, whom she called ‘Hak’, sold the bed to a relative, who gave it to her.
The woman, who has since remarried, said that Hak had been very generous with his donations, giving her $50,000 for the home.
“Hak would donate money and even offered to buy the house for me,” the woman said.
The sale of the bed has attracted international attention, and prompted international protests.
The story of the woman who sold her home and bought the dreamy bed for a man, has been shared on social media and is now making headlines around the world.
The Huffington Post India has reached out to Hak for comment, but he has not yet responded.
