Author and Republican operative Rana for America co-founder Richard Cohen told Breitbart News that Republicans need to be ready for a Trump administration that has promised to “fight the terrorists” as well as a “tough” one that will “protect Americans.”
The former GOP presidential candidate was one of the earliest and most vocal advocates of the war on terror in the US and has written numerous books, most notably “PigGY Bank,” which chronicles the rise of the Taliban and the rise to power of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.
Cohen told Bannon that Trump should be able to put together a “real” anti-terrorism strategy and that the GOP should embrace the idea of “tougher, smarter, smarter” counterterror policy.
“We need a tough on terrorism policy, a tougher, smarter counter-terror policy, and we need to embrace the concept of ‘toughen up,'” Cohen said.
He’s shown no hesitation in going after them and he’s shown an inclination to go after our allies, but I think that the Republican Party, I think it’s time for Republicans to embrace that.” “
There’s a very real possibility that Trump, if he were to become president, could be quite aggressive in trying to fight the terrorists.
He’s shown no hesitation in going after them and he’s shown an inclination to go after our allies, but I think that the Republican Party, I think it’s time for Republicans to embrace that.”
Trump is already being criticized by Democrats and the left for the lack of an anti-terror strategy that can defeat the Islamic State, but Cohen believes that Trump is only being criticized for not being able to “lead” on the issue.
“The American public is sick and tired of being lectured by the president that he’s not going to be a real, tough, smart, or tough on terror.
We’re sick and it’s not helping us.
We’ve been lectured for years and years and that’s just not helping,” Cohen said, adding that the American public “deserves more than this.”
Cohen is currently the co-chair of the Coalition to Stop Hate and Extremism, which is a coalition of liberal organizations, including MoveOn.org, the Nation Institute, and Democracy Alliance.
He also has worked on behalf of Democrats and Republicans on issues such as voting rights, gun control, immigration, and climate change.
“This is an incredibly important moment in American history.
We need to act as a nation and act in our own time.
We can’t afford to be lectured,” Cohen continued.
If the Democrats don’t get this, if the Republicans don’t want to stand up against this, then we’ve got to stand in solidarity with our friends in the Muslim community.”
