Trump has repeatedly suggested that the president has no political influence, a claim that the Republican Party is not likely to accept.
And yet, Trump’s cabinet has been the subject of criticism, especially after the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.
Trump’s administration is facing increasing scrutiny from Democrats over its use of executive orders, as well as its apparent willingness to roll back regulations, including an executive order in January that would prevent any state or local officials from enforcing the Affordable Care Act.
Trump has called for the repeal of the executive order, arguing that it is a “Muslim ban” that is not legal.
In a statement, the Trump administration said it has “continued to uphold the law, defend the rule of law, and protect the rights of all Americans.”
It added that “we have been a lawful government for more than 150 years and we continue to respect the law.”
